Getting Ready for Sturgis
As I write this, we are experiencing a “heat wave” here in the Pacific Northwest. It is too hot to sleep. If it’s above 80 degrees people get cranky. Above 90 and the city of Seattle can shut down as fast as if there was 3 feet of snow on the ground.
Three weeks ago we raced with the AHDRA at Pacific Raceways in Kent, where eliminations were canceled on Sunday (June 24) due to excessive moisture in the air (we call it rain around here). It never fails the week after the AHDRA is in town, usually around the 4th of July, we get a heat wave.
Arlie is working around the clock to get the vendor lot ready for vendors. Managing the property has been his full time job this last year, along with running Northcoast Thunderbikes and all other assorted little tasks we call life.
Tonight he and a helper are unloading the Freightliner so we can prepare it for travel to South Dakota. There’s about two weeks before Arlie heads out. I will stay here until our house sitter arrives around the first of August.
For complete event coverage please log onto www.ahdra.com where you can see race results, register to race, or view the bulletin board. Racing action in Sturgis will be Monday and Tuesday, August 6/7.
Stay tuned. My New Years’ Resolution was to keep this updated a little better. LOL
What is DRAW and Why Should I Give Them Money?
The cost to join is 35.00 a year, which is pretty cheap considering what this organization does for the drag racing community. Check it out or come see me at the track for an application or if you'd like to make a donation.
This year, an AHDRA member, Bob Bongiorno donated two barrels of race gas to be auctioned off for donation money to DRAW. I had never done anything with a product so I wasn't sure how to market the idea. I took possession of the gas in Phoenix and had only an idea about doing a silent auction to raise money.
