Well, we took the gas home to Seattle and tried to think of Plan B. I called around and e-mailed some racers to get some ideas. The gas was a brand that wasn't allowed in the AHDRA gas bikes so I was limited to whom I could sell to. The silent auction idea was still in place for Seattle, so we hauled the gas down there. I made an announcement at the riders' meeting on Sunday and had several people sign up with bids. We decided to terminate bidding by 3 pm so I could collect any money and they could collect their gas. Well, thanks to Fred Love (I think he's from Arizona) who donated 150.00 for one barrel and thanks to Shane and Rob who donated 125.00 for the other barrel. My dream was to collect more but I had a product and wasn't sure about my demographics. I was pleased to get the money and these guys were all pretty happy with the gas.

Fund raising is not easy but it is very rewarding. With the sales of some slightly used t-shirts and the money from the race gas I'll be sending DRAW a check for $ 300.00.

This doesn't sound like much but it will help. Sometimes I send as little as a hundred dollars, and last year at Rockingham a t-shirt sale was held and $4,000 was raised and sent to DRAW.

If you are reading this and wondering how you can get involved there's a lot you can do that doesn't cost a lot. If you are at an NHRA event there is the DRAW booth set up where you can join or buy merchandise that supports DRAW.

If you see me at an AHDRA event I will happily take your donations or provide you with an application. It's hard to race and do fund raising at the same time. But it's very much worth it to know that we are making a difference and we are helping an organization that really does provide fast help for fast friends.
